Minister for Education Launches Talk Boost Programmes in Lisburn

The Department of Education NI Minister, Peter Weir joined the Lisburn Locality Planning Group with partners Resurgam Trust, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust Speech and Language Specialists and local preschools and primary schools to launch the Early Talk Boost and Talk Boost Programmes in Lisburn recently.

Speaking from the event at Barbour Nursery School in Lisburn, Minister Peter Weir commended initiatives such as the Talk Boost programme that support children and young people to get ready to learn.

Lisburn Locality Planning Group built capacity of early year’s practitioners from across 5 pre-schools targeting children aged 3-4years and 13 primary schools targeting children aged 4-7 years to deliver a series of pilot programmes in 2015/16. The pilot programmes have shown to make significant progress in children’s early language by an average of six months after a nine week intervention.

The launch event welcomed a roll out to additional pre-schools and primary schools in the Lisburn locality and a further roll out in the South Eastern Outcomes Area. Read more
