The Ballymena Locality group was established during 2007. The group aims to improve the outcomes for children and young people through a multiagency planning approach. The locality planning group is an ongoing process of engagement with children, young people and their families.
The Children’s Services Planning Locality approach involves many organisations providing valuable services for children and young people. The group wanted to ensure that as many statutory, voluntary and community organisations possible were aware of the work they were engaged in so that a comprehensive picture of the area was available. One of the ways in which they did this was to organise a very successful Family Support Fair.
It became clear as the work progressed that the need for a more integrated, partnership approach across all the organisations was the most efficient and effective way to ensure the greatest impact for the local community. The group has therefore focused on establishing greater partnership working, sharing expertise, and identifying the specific needs of the Ballymena area. This assisted in the process of identifying key priorities such as the continued necessity for Early Intervention across all ages to, specialised support where there are drug and alcohol misuse issues or where there is a child with a disability in the family.
Our ultimate aim is to ensure better outcomes for children in the Ballymena area and we trust the work of this group will have contributed to this.
