Families still spending more on childcare than food and heat

Employers For Childcare have launched the findings of the 9th Annual Childcare Cost Survey which reveal that the average cost of a full-time childcare place in Northern Ireland is £166 per week.

This is a slight decrease on last year, reflecting that some childcare providers have sought not to increase their fees. However, it is clear that affordability remains a critical issue – for two thirds of families, the childcare bill is their biggest or second biggest monthly outgoing. Parents and childcare providers are calling for Government investment to support the sustainability of quality childcare and ensure that this is affordable for families.
