SHSCT Bereavement Helpline

Remember if you would like to talk to someone, we have professionals with knowledge, experience and insight into grief and loss at the other side of the phone. Don’t hesitate to give them a call if you have been bereaved during this time and would like a listening ear.

The Invisible String

Phil is from our Child Bereavement Service and today she is reading a contemporary classic for all ages – ‘The Invisible String’ by Patricia Karst.

With Father’s Day approaching on Sunday, this book ‘The Invisible String’ may help ease and comfort readers with issues of separation, anxiety, loneliness and loss, reminding us that we are always connected to loved ones.

We have an advice line for any adult concerned about a child or young person (4-18 years) who has been bereaved, to discuss ways of supporting them during their grieving.

The advice line number is 07867372711 and is open Monday, Tuesday and Friday 10-1pm.

Anam Cara

With some light finally at the end of the tunnel as we enter Phase two, I wanted to check in with you. I hope you are keeping well and that you are finding some sort of normal in our new world. As always, Anam Cara are here to support bereaved parents in any way we can and we are very hopeful that under guidelines issued by government we will be able to resume our face to face meetings in September. But until then we are now fully up and operational with our online services and 1 to 1 support via phone for parents that need more than a group setting.

We are acutely aware of the many families who have experienced the recent death of their son or daughter and envisage that there will be an increase in demand for services such as Anam Cara in the coming months. With this in mind we want to remind you about our Anam Cara information pack, 8 leaflets written by Bereaved parents for bereaved parents. These can be posted out to you or downloaded from the Anam Cara Website. Please get in touch if you need a pack posted to you.

Anam Cara’s websites www.anamcara.ie or www.anamcarani.co.uk will give parents access to our online resource videos including a Bereavement information evening facilitated by Brid Carroll. In addition, parents can access support videos compiled by bereaved parents on various topics including: The Sudden Death of my Child, A Dad’s Grief.

For recently bereaved parents Anam Cara can offer them 1:1 support either online or over the phone with the Anam Cara Group Facilitator in their area.  Please note these are not counselling sessions. Our professional facilitators are qualified therapists with experience of supporting bereaved parents at their Anam Cara Group and will be able to offer reassurance and information to vulnerable recently bereaved Mothers or Fathers.

For parents who have already attended their local Anam Cara group events, we can now offer an online group meeting. These are closed groups and operate to the same core values as the Anam Cara groups. Going forward these online meetings will fulfill a vital service to parents who still may not be able to attend group due to covid related issues or who simply live to far away from there nearest meeting to attend. This new service will truly make Anam Cara accessible to all bereaved parents across Ireland.

If you have any queries or need more information, please contact us on 01 4045378 /085 2888 888 or info@anamcara.ie . From Northern Ireland you can contact us on info@anamcarani.ie or on 028 95213120 where we will endeavor to help in anyway, we can.
